The assignment was to advice Royal Dutch 'Gazelle' on how to implement an IP (Intellectual Property) strategy. A management summary should be provided and an advice on how to implement the strategy throughout the company. The IP strategy should extent Gazelle’s general business strategy and anticipate to current and future developments on the bicycle market. For Gazelle, a solid IP protection is very important to assure their sales and market share. Wise protection of IP ensures the company good revenues and a solid brand identity.
A wide range of analyses have been conducted to get a clear vision on Royal Dutch 'Gazelle', its currently made choices, and the behavior of its competitors. Based on the gathered information a strategy is set up. This strategy contains a broad description of all steps to undertake on the areas of the general IP strategy, protection infringement, exploitation, collaboration, and the strategy management (during the lifecycle of Gazelle's product). The management summary is set up in the form of a flow chart, with references to the comprehensive explanation written in the strategy document.
