H.J. van Heekperkje

In the context of the course 'Mens en Product Relaties' (Human-Product Interaction) a new part of street furniture is designed. Based on personal frustriations that the the large square in the centre of Enschede, het H.J. van Heekplein, did not offer enough seats, I started to research the wishes of the square visitors by interviewing them (users of the current street furniture on the square, and passants). The conclusion is that the people would like to use the furniture when they are eating, or when they want to relax.

The visitors suggested that a green environment was the most relaxing area they could image. That is why I designed a H.J. van Heekperkje on the H.J. van Heekplein. The green area is designed on the basis of street furniture of the surroundings (including the furniture of the Volkpark).

Thereby, a piece of the park is brought to the city centre, more (relaxing) seats are created, and people are stimulated to visit the park. In the streetlights, which are part of the H.J. van Heekperkje, bird houses are placed, so the nature is more incorporated into the city life.
